Preparations!

So with less than a month before I go my preparations (which started over a year ago) are ramping up. This is my last week in my job, then I have a week on holiday, a week on a leadership development course and then just under a week to move out of my house and pack ready to head to Texas for my Gateway training. Life is very busy and I think things are likely to rush past me! I'm very thankful for the enforced 12 days in the UK in between my training and joining the trip when I can catch up with people I have not managed to see before I leave, and sort out any things that didn't quite get sorted before I left for training.

In Texas I'm doing Gateway, Mercy Ships' training course for all crew serving over 9 months. It is designed to Educate for Missions, Equip for Service with Mercy Ships, and Empower for impacting the poor. The curriculum includes topics on Faith Foundations, Working with the Poor, Personal/Interpersonal Development, and Basic Safety Training (a maritime requirement where I do first aid, fire fighting and water training). This 5-week course is followed by 2-weeks of field service in the Dominican Republic, where we will be involved in a continuing community development program.

Aside the obviously long list of things to get sorted before I leave I am really excited about the next few weeks and heading out for my training. It promises to be an incredible time of learning and personal development, and hopefully I will be able to keep you updated using this blog (once I get the hang of using it!).
